Twitter to Launch Brand Pages — Finally

by Robyn Short

As a writer, I have never develop a real appreciation for Twitter — I simply want more than 140 characters. I also want to be able to get the full experience of punctuation. As a creative, I have never developed a real appreciation for Twitter for the exact same reason — limited design space. As a social media professional, I fully appreciate the news feed functionality of Twitter and encourage my clients to embrace this platform to engage with their customers and clients. Twitter — with all its shortcomings — is an important space for brand engagement, which is why I am thrilled that they have finally decided to join Facebook (and now Google+) in supporting corporate brand pages.

A report in Advertising Age explains that brand pages will allow advertisers to customize headers, making their logo and tagline more prominent. Twitter’s Advertising Blog states that brands can “control the message visitors see when they first come to your profile page by promoting a tweet to the top of your page’s timeline.” Promoted Tweets — basically a “sticky” tweet — will appear auto-expanded so visitors instantly see the photo or video content linked from a tweet. Brands will also be able to separate their @ replies and mentions.

Glad to see that Twitter is stepping up their game by recognizing the importance of brand promotion in the social space. See the video below to learn more about Twitter’s new design.
